Colin Powell Reduces Rush Limbaugh

Dr. Boyce Watkins
www.BoyceWatkins.com

Colin Powell is one of those Republicans you can't find a way to dislike. I've always argued that if the Republican party would get rid of the right wing racists like Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh (the Axis of Ignorance), they could get a lot more support from minority communities. In fact, I'm conservative in some of my views, and liberal in others. My goal is to find common sense in the middle of all of this dichotomous political language, and Colin is one of those guys who brings common sense to the table.

In fact, Colin could have been the first Black President if he'd chosen to do so, and might almost be a better President than Barack Obama.

Even during my college years at The University of Kentucky, I regularly endured great battles with the College Republicans on my campus. They were almost as bad as the horribly bigoted conservatives at Texas A&M when it came to having the most degrading conservative agenda imaginable. I would fight with them in the newspaper every week, in order to deal with the fact that these students had been taught by their parents and university administrators that being subtly, yet powerfully racist is still OK in America. My campus, like many others, has a long history of racial problems (they were the ones who hung an effigy of Barack Obama shortly before the election).

They hated my guts for what I did, but I stuck with it. Also, dealing with these petty, ridiculous Republicans prepared me to deal with the biggest and pettiest Republicans of all: Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. It's the same backward mentality, just on a bigger platform.

I am glad that Colin is a Republican. I appreciate the fact that there are African Americans fighting within the party to make it better and more inclusive. I will likely never be a Republican because I feel that the Democrats want to do more in terms of wealth redistribution, which will ultimately help those I care about the most. But having some good Republicans like Colin Powell on the other side is only good for our country. Shoot, even my dad is a Republican and I love him too.

We all have different methods for skinning the cat, but as long as the cat gets skinned, then you are ok with me.

The video is below if you want to see it.

Collin Powell has never been and will never be a real Republican. The only difference between him and the corrupt Marxist third-world Harvard idiot that he just voted in for President is that Powell never even had the courage to go for the office.

I certainly agree with truthteller. General Powell is an appeaser and merely gives lip service to the word Conservative. He is woefully ignorant of the great tenants that have made our nation thrive. Unfortunately he, and many others in Washington are bent on the distruction of the very valuable truths that make our country great-letting the people rule; having basic respect for all people-even if they come from small towns-getting government out of the marketplace, banking institutions and car opperations. When left to there own-people do a much better job at succeeding-all people of all races are greated with massive value by their Creator-that same Creator who gave us the basis of our Judeo Christian system of law, which is fast falling apart with by the forces of liberal judges and demented politician.

Colin Powell is the only Republican in America who makes a lick of damn sense.

For the Anonymous person who post @4;55pm today , you are showing your ignorance regarding Mr.Powell and I agree totally with the Anonymous person who wrote in @ 3:31pm. Mr.Powell makes a lot of sense and will continue in a great career. As a great man once said it is so easy to find fault in another person shoes, but until you have worn them I would suggest you educate yourselves.Only then can you converse in an intelligent way.(truthteller and loonreader as well)They say ingorance is bliss you are a perfect example!

I would like to ask Colin Powell to leave the Republican Party today. He is a weak leader who doesn't stand for conservative principles. Why else would he have supported Obama for presidency. He won't stand up for the unborn and he won't stand up for the American people on the bailout issue. He belives in big brother in a big way. He wouldn't support McCain who wasn't a true conservative either. But he was a much better alternative that president elect Obama. Does Colin Powell really think Obama is more conservative? If so, he has bought into the same lie Obama has convinced many other American's into. Now Mr. Powell wants to ask a true conservative to leave our party? No chance dude. You are not welcome here anymore as far as I am concerned. Republicans may have lost their way. But we will never find our way with people like McCain or Powell in leadership.

all you do is make racist comments against anglos, and call them names. and then you complain about people who do it to you.

What a disappointment Colin Powell is. Now, knowing he is also a racist, what is this country coming to?

Well...

As a genuine conservative who remembers the ideals of conservative icons like Barry Goldwater and Nelson Rockefeller I have to laugh out loud at the stupidity of those who criticize Colin Powell and use racial slurs against him. With clowns like you as Republican's, the party is in for a dismal future. What you're too blind to grasp is todays Republican Party has moved away from true conservative ideals and become closer to fascist/corporatism than conservatism. Furthermore, what was once the party of intellectual giants has been reduced to a home filled with mental midgets like Bush and Palin. As the demographics of the voting populace change the Republican Party will become a party of only regional influence, hamstrung by an insular ignorance that no longer speaks to the majority of American voters. Powell is trying to warn the Republican "power brokers" that the party is headed down a road towards disaster. That the GOP is too blind to see the writing on the wall is predictable. You see, blind ignorance does not breed wisdom, just more ignorance.

Maybe a new "truly" consevative party will emerge from the ashes of republicanism, offering us real conservatives a voice unfettered by the tired drivel of religious zealotry and neo-stupidism.

An EX- Republican

To anonymous at 5.13 – the answer to your question is I don’t know – and what’s more I don’t care because it’s not about ‘me’! It’s not about whether Boyce or Obama or anyone come to that ‘gives a shit about me’. The picture is a far bigger one and one you seem to be oblivious to. I read and follow Dr Boyce because he speaks the truth and articulates concerns that I have. Concerns about injustice, discrimination – stupidity…! Having said that, I wouldn’t be surprised if he does ‘give a shit’ as you like to put it, about my ‘liberal cracker ass’ – simply because I’ve never heard him say anything that’s unfair, untrue, divisive or derogatory. This gives me reason to believe that yes, he may just care about me in the same way he cares about any other human being.

Yes, El Rancho. I do give a shit about you. You have my respect. I also give a shit about everyone who cares enough to come to my blog, even if they don't agree with me. You have a fundamental right as Americans to state your voice, and given that I strongly state my own opinions, I fully enjoy and expect everyone to be equally passionate about their own. Bless each and every one of you and Merry Christmas,

Dr. Boyce

The conservative who wrote this has my respect. If all conservatives engaged in this kind of progressive commentary, I'd consider switching parties.

OK. It's been 3 days now and I and those who agree with me have been very colorfully described! Of course, pre-judging those you have no knowledge of is exactly what prejudism is. If those of us who differ in opinion are excluded from the argument how are you ever going to get a complete education, El Rancho? Far from an Anglo-Saxon, my olive skin chromosones come from the Mediterranean and I was born in the Caribbean, not far from where Collin Powell's family originates. I was a luckier Elian Gonzalez since Bill Clinton's jack-booted thugs weren't around to send me back to the Marxist dictator back in 1966. From where my parents brought me to this day blacks, whites and every color in between brave the ocean and most drown or are eaten by sharks trying to escape that "wealth re-distribution utopia".

I'm really sorry that the first black American President has to be someone whose political alliances force me to feel about him the way I described him on my first entry above. I'm sorry that the ACORN people that he comes from post the picture of Che Guevara in their headquarters, a guy that did nothing but kill, rape and rob the working people he claimed to be fighting for. Mostly, I'm sorry to see that in the country where folks come from everywhere on earth to achieve wealth there are inner city blacks as well as Appalachian whites who will not take the initiative to get out of where fate has placed them in order to do better for themselves. I believe in helping the poor but not through big government. And I certainly do not believe in feeding the middle class government bureaucracy that winds up taking most of the money meant for the poor.

My life experiences have made me a Libertarian. This is what our founding fathers really were, not liberal or conservative. The documents they left us, even if written by slave owners, liberated them from England and eventually liberated the slaves from people like themselves. Now these documents that are the last best hope of mankind have liberated 100 million people in both Western and Eastern Europe and another 50 million more recently in the Middle East.

I am particularly disappointed by "weak-knee" Republicans like "Anonymous Ex-Republican" that do not understand the value of the principles of personal liberty and personal responsibility when formulating public policy. In reality the Conservative police state is no better than the liberal welfare state! I think our founding fathers would agree. And perhaps on some social issues I might be more liberal than some who write on this blog.

And by the way, Dr. Boyce, at the risk of insulting those liberals who have come full circle and endorse the religious intolerance that those first immigrants on the Mayflower fled, a Merry Christmas to you too!

"corrupt Marxist third-world Harvard idiot"

Really, truthteller. Wow. You actually believe your comments have some basis in the truth. I, too, am a libertarian.
It's amazing how real republican's like yourself give other republicans a pass on your critiques.

Colin's endorsement was well done and well thought out. He also illuminated something that has always puzzled me: The republican party has resources and some of the most educated minds in America, but can not get or retain the black or latino vote.

I know a lot of republicans and they are not ignorant people, so I have to assume that their non-inclusive nature is by design. The truth of the republican party is this: Minorities are okay as long as they don't have more power than whites. While I know you disagree, truthteller, this is a fact. How could the party of Lincoln and Frederick Douglas have fallen so far.

The mere fact that someone could choose McCain/Palin over Obama/Biden is very telling. A vote for McCain/Palin was a vote for the status quo. It was a vote for economic ruin, the Iraq war and social irresponsibility. The fact that McCain/Palin got so many votes lets me know that we still have a long way to go in this country before we can really look at issues for what they are instead of looking at issues the way we have been trained to.

Colin's my Hero. When push came to shove, he stood up and endorsed his conscience.

Here we go. After 8 years of watching my President, one of the most sincere guys to ever hold the office, be destroyed by ignorant fools it's my turn to have 4 to 8 years of payback! So yes indeed, Jimmy K and El Rancho: A corrupt Marxist third-world Harvard idiot and with a Jihadist name to boot!

Except for the name thing I would use the same exact description for Bill Clinton, Al Gore or John Kerry (for whom I would add traitor to the description). "third-world" is not a reference to race but to a "third-world is good; America is evil" mindset that has been growing in this country since Cassius Clay became Muhammed Ali. My experience has been that institutions of higher learning are places where the few with common sense are like salmon swimming against a current of idiots.

Unlike what those idiots and the media have been teaching you, Progessives are really regressive Liberals trying to protect the over 60 year old FDR status quo. If it wasn't for these two dinosour institutions the only worthwhile political discussion left in this country would be between conservatives and libertarians, the ones with Liberals bore me.

For example, Jimmy K claims to be libertarian but I guess he feels minorities are beeing excluded by Republicans. However, minorities exclude themselves from the Republican party when they go beyond wanting liberty and opportunity for everyone to wanting hand-outs for some. What kind of libertarian wants to use big government tax money to buy the support of minorities? It is an insult to all minorities who do well without the help of government.

While on the subject of liberals insulting minorities I can't leave out El Rancho. He thinks Cubans are embittered. I guess they have a lot of company in this country of embittered clinggers to guns and religion. That's what the left always does. They insult everyone that doesn't want to be a slave in their plantation. That is why Sec of State Rice and Justice Thomas aren't real blacks, Cubans aren't real Latinos according to the real racists at La Raza and Sarah Palin can't be a real feminist. Never mind that they idolize Hillary who would have gotten nowhere on her own and is essentially Bill Clinton's Todd Palin.

So yes, enjoy the next 4 to 8 years thinking that you have actually voted to change the status quo. I will enjoy them as I watch and comment about the results for our country from having replaced a man who liberated 50 million people only to be called King George by Curious George.Ha,ha,ha
