This is unreal!!!! I posted on my blog two weeks ago about slapping soulja dumbass, but I posted way before I heard this. You should have been slapping him, because of superman that hoe, not just this comment. I have no idea why I'm even surprised.
Dr. Watkins your homeboy Dr. Hill is on Fox again shuckin and jiving for the white folks. I really don't see much difference between him and Juan Williams.
To the person who used 'academics' as a derogatory term. Why is having an education something bad? If Soulja Boy had some sense of history, then he would realize how horrific and demeaning slavery was to blacks. Chains and tattoos weren't given as tokens of appreciation by the slavemasters, they were symbols of ownership. We were less than animals to them. How the fuck is that positive? We must educate ourselves!
How can you tell me that he made a negative a positive by his statement? His statement is from a place of ignorance. Saying that he needs a better education is honest, not irrational.
I truly respect you as a scholar and a positive force in the black community. I listened to you on WURD in Philadelphia and was inspired by your words. So, could you please explain to me ( because I just don't get it), why someone of your stature, diginity and intelligence always chimes in on Hip Hop issues. I mean, whenever I read or hear you or Micheal Eric Dyson discuss Hip Hop, I think to myself, WHY? Hip Hoppers are not skilled, talented musicians or composers, why do you give them credibility. I'm a 40 something brother from Philly and consider myself fairly hip with a Teenage son. I think to myself why would a professor even care whether Ice-T is Beefin w/Soulja boy or if Nas is a great rapper (Dyson).WHO GIVES a SH#$. Are you trying to be popular with the Hip Hop Nation? Do you REALLY think addressing issues related to Hip Hop are important?
I have an ear for rock, jazz(not smooth), country, classical ect. Just great MUSIC. Rappers are talentless and spout out their mouths whatever they think would generate a dollar. Why even discuss them, I don't get it.
Because Dr. Boyce is trying to be down. It is so embarrassing to see a grown-ass educated man "keeping it real" with the latest minstrel shows from the rap community. Let Vibe or Source cover this bullshit Boyce.
Hip Hop is greatly affecting our children in a very negative way, so I'm happy to see someone is standing up against it and saying that is not ok to make these dumbass comments. We all need to be involved!!!

If that is the way he feels, then he should say it regardless of what academics like you think. Maybe he is just thinking positive.
