I woke up this morning to gobs of email from the lovers and haters of the piece I wrote supporting Father Michael Pfleger in the latest of Barack Obama's racial problems. I also read this morning that Senator Obama has denounced the Trinity United Church of Christ and all the individuals in that church who have supported him all these years. This reminds me of the superstar athlete who is told to leave "the hood" and not associate with friends and relatives who supported him when he was just a scrub. It was the love and support of the people of Illinois that got Obama's career going, I am not sure how I feel about his denunciation of his church home.
That led to some quick thoughts I have on the matter.
1) Why hasn't Hillary Clinton been asked to denounce any of her friends who speak strongly about race? In fact, didn't Condoleeza Rice say something racially controversial recently? Perhaps President Bush should be asked to start denouncing also. It seems to me that America simply wants to make sure that Barack Obama is not "too black to be President." This appears to be a social clensing, the same that many of us go through in middle class Black America.
2) Why doesn't Senator Obama just cut to the chase and denounce all of us? I think that might make things easier, since there are hundreds of thousands of African-Americans who agree wholeheartedly with Pastor Jeremiah Wright. It might seem that simply getting rid of the entire black community would give him fewer headaches. Black people are just too much damn trouble.
3) How would the Jews feel if America refused to acknowledge the holocaust? What if America had no desire to protect or support Israel from hostile forces in the middle east, claiming that anti-semitism is "just a myth" that they made up? I don't believe, for one second, that anti-semitism is a myth, but perhaps that puts things into context when understanding why African-Americans are so livid over America's lack of willingness to be honest about racism. America has not even apologized for the 400 year holocaust on black families, and they get angry when we bring it up. If this were done to the Jewish community, they would be outraged.
Those are my thoughts. I still stand by Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger and Senator Barack Obama. They are my brothers in truth, and unlike the McCarthyists on the other side, they will end up on the right side of history.

I am disheartened that Sen. Obama has decided to "resign" from his church. While I understand the game at hand, boundaries must be set. The reality is that many Americans do not empathize or even understand the struggles of black America; therefore, dissociating from one's church only serves to perpetuate these uninformed beliefs. Nevertheless, I continue to support Sen. Obama and pray that this country will strive towards change.
No excuse Dr. Boyce...this church has shown no respect for fighting racism in America, and just because Pastor Pfleger has done some much good does not give them the right to act a monkey doodle fool in front of the nations!
These pastors are not showing good judgement and are contrary to the commissional message of Jesus Christ. Knowing that the media is so powerful in blowingu up a situation...why would one in good conscious give them something to blow up in a negative way. Father Pfledger himself has apologized because he knows he was wrong. Why would you defend him?
There was nothing to defend...he used poor judgement, poor ministry and poor testimony. And with all due respect sir, do not compare yourself with Barack becuse he is running for the President of the U.S. of America and you are?
Barack is doing more for the Black community then any of the Black leaders have done within the last 20-30 years in terms of validation alone...you are so off on this and you are not looking at the big picture. African Americans are not the big picture just part like every other ethnic group. Senator Obama should denounce these people because they are a detriment to the big picture. Hillary Clinton does not have to denounce her people because she is just like them. You are talking crazy today and its not helping anything Dr. Boyce...
You have sucumbed to the silly voices not ready to accept a Black Man like Barack Obama. Would you like it better if he was more like a Chris Rock character in Head of State or a Paul Mooney type...I love these two comedians but they are not running for president...you have lost your way man....and please don't get on television anywhere repeating your opinion on this matter.
Those of us who care for and love Barack Obama just as he is do not agree with you today. If someone was contrary to my message personally or the entire church i would have to let them go, I don't care how packed your church is.
Finally I think you just don't get it this time. Racist White folk are ok with Hillary and her Friends, they get that message...they are not ok with Black folk hatin on them. Barack sees the racism, but he is asking us to take the higher ground, carry ourselves in a excellent way and by all means don't fan the flames of racism that's not smart and it isn't a good look when you are trying to be a unifier.
This is a simple case of parishner out growing the church that rased him...at one point or another a man has to leave the nest...think about it...please. Dr. Boyce, you dissapoint me today.
All good things must eventually come to an end. Fmr Alabama Governor George Wallace had to do the same exact thing, when he finally quit his association with the, well the hateful cowards in sheets(I did not want to disrespect anyone by mentioning their hateful name). It was affecting the National Democratic Party, and politics eventually kicks out bad bedfellows.
As Rev. Wright says "Obama is a politician, he will do what a politician has to do to get elected."
I am wondering WHEN the tape comes out on Michelle Obama saying disparaging things about white people, is he going to divorce her before the election?
Or better yet WHEN the tape comes out of him in AGREEMENT (saying amen, nodding) to Rev. Wright sermons comes out on Fox and other stations during the general, will he resign from running for President for the Democratic party?
LOL!
He very well should. But I am sure he will not.
